Ever since, SLOS members have been striving hard for excellence in practice and scattering knowledge and expertise among the members and the post graduate trainees. Post graduate education in orthodontics and continuing dental education were the main goals of the SLOS from its inception.
The inaugural scientific sessions of the SLOS were held in 2001. Both local and foreign resource personnel contributed towards the success. Since then, regular scientific sessions and workshops have been held by the SLOS until 2016.
In 2016, SLOS reached a major milestone by conducting the first international orthodontic conference under the presidency of Dr. A. S. Basnayake. The sessions were represented by both local and foreign delegates in sharing knowledge, expertise and novel experiences in orthodontics. The SLOS also introduced the Sanmuganathan Sivasubramaniam oration at the inaugural ceremony of the first international orthodontic conference.
SLOS reached another milestone in 2018 by launching the first Sri Lankan orthodontic journal at the second international orthodontic conference under the presidency of Dr. W. M. Senadeera.
We are proud to say that the SLOS has obtained membership in two most prestigious associations: namely, the Asia Pacific Orthodontic Society(APOF) and the World Federation of Orthodontics(WFO).
SLOS has been working hand in hand with its sister associations in promoting post graduate dental education.
Today, we are proud to say that SLOS has grown from its crawling stage of nine 11 member delegation to a mature adulthood of 40 members marching ahead towards perfection in knowledge and practice.
